The Snow Bunny Guide To Bozeman Ski Resorts

Posted by RSVP Hotel BZN on 20 December 18, 8:00 am

Big Sky and Bridger Bowl frame the Bozeman ski scene, the pillars of pow that greet locals and visitors from around the world. Whichever way you go, you can’t go wrong for a day of killer skiing, but there’s so much more to a great time on the slopes than just getting first tracks. This is your go-to guide for all things vibe and amenities when it comes to taking advantage of these two classic spots from a Bozeman home base. Because why stay at one resort when you can enjoy two?

Bridger Bowl

In the battle between Big Sky and Bridger Bowl, most Bozemanites will confess that they love both for different reasons. But Bridger holds a special place in local hearts for its community vibe and powder for days. Don’t skip out on a chance to ride the Cold Smoke.

Getting There

Two choices: car or bus. If you drive yourself, you’ll find plenty of parking after the short 16-mile trip from downtown. But the free bus from Bozeman gives you the town-to-slope treatment without having to put toe to pedal.

Drinking & Dining

Toast the snow gods and toss one back from the bar at Bridger. Jimmy B’s Bar and Grill offers a full service bar and dinner menu. You’ll want to snag a seat near the fireplace to really help you relax your legs. There’s also Faceshots Bar, where you can toast an après-ski moment with friends. During the day, mid-slope Alpine Cabin serves up food to-go, as well as wine and beer for a tasty midday break to get your groove back.

Slopes

This is the beloved community ski hill, where freak storms have been known to dump two feet of champagne powder overnight. You’ll dig the community vibe and the famous Cold Smoke on a fresh powder day, plus the backcountry up on the ridge gives you plenty of options to go steep and deep in the trees or stick to groomers.

Big Sky

Big Sky is the biggest ski resort in the country—enough said. This world-class resort draws people from around the world, but don’t worry. There’s plenty to go around. The best part about staying in Bozeman and skiing or riding Big Sky is getting to experience world-class nightlife, hot springs, and shopping along with epic runs.

Getting There

Bus service, personal vehicle, or private car can take you from Bozeman to the slopes at Big Sky. Big Sky Shuttle service allows you to book luxury private cars for the ultimate door-to-door service. Sit back and relax in luxury—knowing a pro driver is at the wheel makes it even easier to enjoy the scenery passing by on the hour drive. The Skyline Bus service between Bozeman and Big Sky keeps things cheap, and it offers late-night hours so you won’t miss out on party time.

Drinking & Dining

At a resort this enormous, your options are only limited by where you want to ski that day. You’ll find dining in and around the township, as well as slopeside. You’re not going to go hungry (or thirsty) when you’re cruising the slopes. For a touch of romance, try Lotus Pad, offering a taste of Asia with the finest local ingredients. Or go big with the Montana Dinner Yurt experience, a backcountry candlelight affair accessible by snowcat. You can still make it back to Bozeman for an après ski cocktail and a little bit of bar hopping.

Shredding

With 23 chairlifts and 11 surface lifts across 5,750 acres and 4,350 feet of vertical, get excited to ski Big Sky. We just hit you hard with stats so you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed by the powder potential—Big Sky sees an average of 400 inches every year, making this the place to tear it up.
