Summer Arts Events Around the Valley You Won’t Want to Miss
Anyone who has spent a winter in Gallatin Valley knows that summer is met with open arms. Seasons change breathes new life on our little town. We welcome more daylight, more leisure time, more patio lounging, more champagne sipping, and more out-and-about as we soak up every second of these precious months.
Summer Means Art-Scene in Bozeman
With the knowledge that they’ll be gone before we know it, Bozeman seems to pull out all the stops between June and August. One of the areas we’re most excited for this summer is our talent-packed art scene, which is bursting at the seams this summer! From Bozeman to Big Sky, there are more must-see events than we can count. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the art events around town we’re most excited about this summer.
The Bozeman Art Walk
This little number is a yearly favorite of ours. Kicking off the second Friday in June, the Art Walk is one of Bozeman’s most anticipated events. Stroll around a closed down Main Street as you pop into local businesses to view the artwork of mainstay and featured artists alike. Go with your girlfriends or bring the family for a night out on the town. Did we mention there’s free wine? Most galleries offer some sort of refresher to start your summer weekend off right. And a friendly reminder; don’t forget about our businesses just off Main! Our side streets participate in the Art Walk and offer even more opportunities to see the work of our town’s incredible artists (not to mention even more chances to shop)!
The Bozeman International Film Festival
This one is a bit of a newcomer to the Bozeman community. In just its second year, the International Film Festival is already a community fave. Kicking off the first weekend of June, this four-day event will feature over 70 different films, screening at a handful of theaters around town. But this is more than just watching movies, friend. These films were selected specifically for the spotlight they cast on women, from directors to actors to producers, and range the gamut of genres. Don’t miss out on the extras, either! Audience members will have chances to really engage with the films and their makers, from Q&A panels to Opening Film and Reception.
Bozeman’s Shakespeare in the Parks
Looking for a reason to relax outdoors while soaking up some quality entertainment? Then Shakespeare in the Parks is calling your name, honey. This incredible art endeavor has been gracing our community with their performances since 1973! Starting June 8th, head out to Duck Pond on MSU campus to catch their brilliant performance of the captivating Henry IV, running through the 15th. After that performances start back up again with a night of laughs during the Merry Wives of Windsor. Did we mention all performances are free?
The Big Sky Art Auction
Big Sky is having its 4th Annual Art Auction, which will play host to over $500,000 worth of contemporary and western art from a host of talented artists. Patrons can enjoy a preview of that art that will be being auctioned off on Saturday, July 20th, where they can get a glimpse of the stunning pieces before the fast-paced excitement begins. There will also be opportunities at the Artist Reception for attendees to hear artists talk about their pieces. The event will be held in the Big Tent and the PBR Arena on July 21st.
The Big Sky Classical Music Fest
If you feel so inclined for an especially classy evening, get yourself down to the Big Sky Classical Musical Festival. This annual event pulls in artists from all over the world to the Big Sky region. A three-day treat, the Festival is held outside in Town Center Park (for free!), with one ticketed indoor concert at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center. What’s especially nice is the time of this event, kicking off around the end of summer, from August 9-11. While most other events have come to a close, you can still enjoy some talented entertainment in the mild summer temperatures Big Sky.
